No, Samsung’s 45-Watt Phone Charger isn’t worth it.
Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra support faster 45-watt fast charging, which is one of the key differences between them and the less expensive Galaxy S22. Instead, cheaper Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S22 and S21 FE only support 25-watt fast charging. The catch is that neither of the necessary power adapters is included with your phone and must be purchased separately.
Samsung’s 45-watt fast charger costs $50 and is available on the company’s website and on Amazon. The 25-watt charger is more affordable at $28 on Amazon and $20 at Best Buy. With that in mind, you may be wondering if Samsung’s more expensive charger is really worth the extra money.
To answer that question, I put it through its paces on the Galaxy S22 Plus in a variety of scenarios. I charged the device in 10- and 20-minute increments, starting with different battery levels and using the same cable and outlet each time. During both tests, the phone was also connected to the same Wi-Fi network but without a SIM card.
Samsung’s 45-Watt Phone Charger vs. 25W Charger
Starting at 0% for 10 minutes | Starting at 0% for 20 minutes | Starting at 25% for 10 minutes | Starting at 25% for 20 minutes | Starting at 50% for 10 minutes | Starting at 50% for 20 minutes | |
45-watt charger | 22% | 46% | 45% | 67% | 71% | 88% |
25-watt charger | 17% | 40% | 48% | 70% | 70% | 88% |
As you can see from the table above, the results are mixed. When charging the phone from 0% in 10- and 20-minute increments, the 45-watt power adapter charged it slightly faster. And when plugged in at 25%, the 25-watt charger recharged a slightly higher percentage of the battery after 10 and 20 minutes, respectively. When charging from 50%, the results were essentially the same.
I wasn’t the only one who found out these results. When comparing Samsung’s 25-watt and 45-watt chargers, Android Authority discovered that charging speeds were very similar.
Samsung is one of several phone manufacturers working to reduce the time it takes to charge your phone. Depending on the model available in your region, the OnePlus 10 Pro, for example, supports either 65-watt or 80-watt fast charging.
